Welcome to Gowerton Cricket Club website. It would be appropriate to acknowledge the debt of gratitude that generations of Gowerton cricketers owe to Sir John Roper Wright, who not only introduced cricket to the village, but secured a playing field (The Athletic Ground) which has remained the ‘home’ of cricket in Gowerton to this day. We also acknowledge the contribution of Captain H. Leighton Davies who, during the 1920’s and 1930’s did so much to update the ground facilities.

The club was founded in 1880 as Gower Road it was renamed Gowerton in 1886. Prior to 1880, the Athletic Ground consisted of three separate fields, two of which were occupied by a chemical works. The third field, of approximately five acres, was used for the grazing of cattle and the growing of hay by a local farmer. We have come a long way since those early days and we hope that you find our website interesting and informative.

Chwarae Teg - Play Hard, Play Fair

Above all other team games, Cricket has a hard earned and jealously protected reputation for being played, win or lose, within the boundaries of "fair play" showing sportsmanship towards opponents and team mates.
